Jiawei Zhao is a photo-based artist practiced with sculpture and installation. Jiawei is originally from Beijing, China. He came to the U.S. at age 18 to attend college, and have been here for eleven years since then. Jiawei was an accountant, and he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 2014 from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. In 2018, Jiawei graduated from MFA Fine Arts program at Pratt Institute, where he was awarded $50,000 Merit-based scholarship. Jiawei organized and curated the second-year MFA photography candidates’ exhibition when he studied at Pratt. His two pieces of work are collected by Kala Art Institute, where he finished a residency in January 2019. Jiawei has participated in some group exhibitions held at non-profits galleries since 2016 in NYC and California. His work has been selected for the 56th Annual Juried Competition at the Masur Museum of Art. Jiawei finished residencies at MASS MoCA and ChaShaMa North in Spring 2019. His recent work is included in the 13th Annual Juried Exhibition at GoggleWorks Center of the Arts located in Reading, Pennsylvania, and the exhibition runs until early June 2019. Jiawei’s work is featured in Volume 9 of FOA print and digital publication. He will participate in artist-in-residence of Carrie Able Gallery in Brooklyn, NY.
